Mindfulness

At Project Pneuma, we teach our students about the importance of mindfulness and the different practices they can do to increase their mental and physical awareness.

What is mindfulness? It is defined as a moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience without judgment.

While some people may still consider the mind-body connection as new age beliefs, it has emerged as an authentic medical phenomenon with evidence-based science to support it. At the core of the mind-body connection, mindfulness practices have enjoyed a tremendous surge in popularity, moving from a mostly unknown concept to mainstream psychotherapy.

Scientists have discovered that mindfulness techniques can help improve physical health in several ways, including relieving stress, treating heart disease, lowering blood pressure, reducing chronic pain, and improving sleep.

The goal of any mindfulness practice is to achieve a state of alert, focused relaxation and many of them can be done in the comfort of your home. Meditation, yoga, art therapy, martial arts, physical activity, and enjoying the outdoors are all examples of mindfulness practices that can be done daily.
